Earthco™ Silva Cell Soil:Earthco Soil Mixtures recognizes that satisfying load-bearing requirements without compromising soil volume and structure in an urban environment is a challenging design issue. As a result, we have custom-designed soil that is ideal for installation with Silva Cells. Our soil consists of a blend of topsoil, coarse sand, and organic matter, and is processed through a 1/2” screen. Our Silva Cell Soil maintains sufficient water drainage to sustain tree growth in an urban environment.
Primary Uses: Ideal for tree planters along sidewalks, boulevards, and in parking lots. Recommended for projects in highly trafficked urban environments with insufficient area for open tree pits; also suitable for storm water capture beneath porous pavement.
Earthco™ Bioretention Soil:The Toronto Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) recognized the need for a soil product which allows water to percolate and drain through quickly while sustaining plant life. The TRCA reached out to Earthco Soil Mixtures to jointly develop this custom blend. Often used in bioswales, this blend provides a functional means to convey storm water runoff. Earthco Soil Mixtures’ Bioretention Soil is produced using coarse sand, screened topsoil, and organic matter, and is processed through a 1/2” screen.
Primary Uses: Ideal for areas with high surface drainage runoff, including bioswales incorporated into parking lot islands and medians, along roadsides, for bioswales in residential and parkland areas, and for use in overflow ponds.
Earthco™ Green Roof Soil:The City of Toronto is the first North American city to implement a bylaw mandating the construction of green roofs for new development projects. Earthco Soil Mixtures has responded to this requirement by custom-designing lightweight green roof soil blends to fit the specific needs of your construction project. Earthco Soil Mixtures is the exclusive manufacturer of Hydrotech Membrane Corp.’s Garden Roof® Intensive, Semi-Intensive, and Extensive Growing Media. CU-Structural Soil™:Earthco Soil Mixtures has over a decade of experience as a producer of CU-Structural Soil™, licensed by Amereq Corp. This soil and aggregate blend was designed by Cornell University to fulfill the horticultural needs of sustaining tree growth in an urban environment, while also meeting the compaction and load-bearing requirements as a pavement base course. CU-Structural Soil™ consists of clay loam soil, porous aggregate and hydrogel slurry to bind the soil and aggregate. When compacted as a base course for paving, CU-Structural Soil™ forms a lattice for root growth with sufficient drainage and aeration to sustain healthy trees. Earthco Soil Mixtures is capable of meeting the strict specifications set out by Cornell University.
